Summary of Practice
Mr. Maher is a specialist in international and domestic commercial business dispute resolution including litigation, trials and appeals, arbitration, work-outs and settlement planning and negotiation. He has worked on complicated securities matters including the Xerox Class Action Securities Litigation, the Prudential Class Action Securities Litigation, and the Home Shopping Network II Class Action Securities Litigation and was an arbitrator at the New York Stock Exchange. He has also worked on complex real estate litigation including the VMS Securities Litigation; the Oxford Real Estate L.P. Securities Litigation cases; the largest commercial foreclosure matter filed in New York, commercial matters for banks and investment funds. His experience also extends to loan restructuring, commercial leasing, sales of assets, securitization and bankruptcy issues.
Mr. Maher is also an experienced business lawyer, having structured and implemented international joint ventures, strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions, in the pharmaceutical, textile, entertainment and airline industries. His experience in the field of intellectual property includes trademark and licensing transactions, film distribution agreements, television option agreements, patent and trademark acquisitions, and related disputes.
In recent years he has handled transactions, joint-ventures, and litigation for Chinese clients in the U.S. and Asia, including recovery of a major Chinese company’s domain name, which had been hijacked by a cyberpirate, and structuring a production agreement for a Chinese-American motion picture. Many of the clients represented by Mr. Maher are headquartered in China, Russia, and Finland, as well as the USA.
Professional and Educational Background
Mr. Maher is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied at the Wharton School, and New York Law School. He also studied at Harvard and Columbia universities. Afterwards, Mr. Maher became a partner at Brady & Tarpey and later practiced in his own firm. In the New York Office of Russin, Vecchi, Berg & Bernstein LLP his practice emphasizes international commercial dispute resolution and transactional matters, principally for clients based in Asia, Europe and the United States.
